Rather Crowded...

China -- No less than 3,170 kung fu (wing chun) practitioners, recently performed the nine series of 'Wing Chun Fist', to music.

The performance was held in Luo Village, Foshan, the hometown of Ye Wen, kung fu master and teacher of Bruce Lee.

The performers were local resident as well as enthusiasts from wing chun associations worldwide.

Officials said the performance was also allegedly registered as a Guinness world record.

Finger Fu

China -- Fu Bingli – who has been studying martial arts for 32 years – recently took the Guinness world record for completing 12 press ups on just one finger of his right hand.

Bingli can reportedly perform the feat of standing upside down supporting himself on just one index finger.

Bingli Fu, of Lianyungang, eastern China, said he's been training since he was seven years old. "My index finger has as much strength in it as most people's entire body," he said.

Carried Away

UK -- A man in a wheelchair had to be helped down Snowdon (the tallest mountain in Wales) by rescuers after a group of martial arts enthusiasts who had carried him there left him on his own during the ascent.

The group of six black belts were reportedly taking part in a fundraising record attempt and had carried the man up the mountain path, according to news.bbc.co.uk.

They abandoned the man - deciding to leave him before they reached the peak. Furthermore, they were too tired when they returned to carry him down.

They had to call out mountain rescuers, who criticised the group's actions. Criticised them? Nah... Really?

Po? No; Ho. Oh...

Malaysia -- A 55-year-old kung fu master named Ho recently smashed smashed (geddit?...) his previous record of breaking three coconuts in 70 seconds. And - according to media reports - he managed to pierce four coconuts, using his index finger, in a little over 30 seconds (30.81 seconds to be precise).
(Actually, he punches the nut first and then pushes his finger through. Still, impressive!)

Hundreds of people, among them many tourists, reportedly witnessed the record breaking (geddit?...) event in Malacca on Saturday.

Master Ho said he was now preparing to get into the Guinness Book of World Records. Here's an earlier video of the "nut case":

Klodeckeln-Do

Sure, this is a great feat, and I'm confident this is a great guy, but still... I'm always left with sort of a pressing question, a simple: why?

Even though one can pee on electric fences doesn't automatically make it a brilliant idea to do it... The late, great Bruce Lee probably said it best when he talked about why he didn't break boards: "Boards don't hit back".

Story:
41-year-old Kevin Shelley from Indianapolis is a fourth-degree black belt in taekwondo. He can probably defend himself against a lot: muggers, troublemakers, now even the occasional wayward toilet.

The Carmel personal trainer credited his technique in a successful quest to set a Guinness Book of Records mark by using his head to break 46 wooden toilet seat lids in 60 seconds.

Shelley recently appeared on a live, German version of the "Guinness World Records" television show to compete for the world record in breaking "klodeckeln" (wooden toilet seat lids) with his head.

He broke 46 of the lids in 60 seconds; his opponent - a martial arts expert from Hamburg, Germany - broke 41. The previous 60-second record was 30.

Alleged Torture

India -- Wonder marathon kid Budhia Singh's (judo) trainer Biranchi Das has been detained by the police after the boy's mother lodged an FIR against him alleging physical torture.

Budhia's mother Sukanti Singh alleged that Biranchi had been torturing the seven-year-old boy whose exploits at long-distance running had stunned the sporting world.

The child had entered the Limca Book of Records when he ran a distance of 65 km from Puri to Bhubaneswar on May 2 last year in 7.02 hours. The run also kicked off a controversy with several organisations and the district child welfare committee objecting to such shows involving a small boy.

Sukanti had taken the boy away from the judo association hall a few days ago where he lived and trained with the coach.

Bid for Guinness

Is it OK to be impressed and disgusted at the same time? Hope so, because I tend to have very mixed emotions with stuff like this. Small kids running a full Marathon, being beauty "queens", or breaking records ...

Story:
Mysore, India -- Over 400 people including dignitaries watched with awe as Deia S. Urs, the six-year-old wonder karate kid broke 31 clay tiles in just 60 seconds with her forehead in Manasagangotri here today.

The event was filmed as per statutory rules and will be sent for a likely entry into the Guinness Book of World Records. There is no record of such an event, it is learnt.

The event took place from 11.09 am to 11.10 am. About 40 tiles were arranged in a single row and Deia broke it with effortless ease and composure, 31 of them in just a minute. The target set was actually 30 but she exceeded that.

Deia is a student of Okinawa Goju Ryu Karate Do-India, Kuvempunagar. Her trainers were present.

Good for him!

Last week in gym class, Matthew Garrity broke the Centerville School record for push-ups, breezing past last year's record of 50 with a whopping 90 push-ups.

The 10-year-old's accomplishment is even more remarkable considering that when he was born, his parents weren't even sure if he'd ever be able to walk.

Today, Matthew has overcome the major hurdles of his condition. He has completed all of his structural surgeries and, with the help of karate, has built up his muscles. It's been over a year since his last hospitalization, though he still comes down with pneumonia occasionally.

In a hurry

Martial arts instructor and St. Ambrose University adjunct professor John Morrow performed 123 back-of-the-hand push-ups in one minute Friday afternoon, easily breaking the old record of 100.

..Which is quite a feat indeed - a fantastic achievement really, considering the age!
But I can't help asking myself this simple question: Why?

I guess the answer to that is the same as to why dogs lick their own nuts -
Because they can :-)
