Very impressive indeed!

He Got 10 Years

The 31-year-old man pleaded guilty to a sexual relationship with the girl. The incidents occurred during trips to competitions in Venezuela, Estonia, and Russia in 2005 and 2006. FBI Arrestes Instructor

When the Feds are on your tail, you know (or should know) there are some major things going on.

Iowa -- A 51-year-old man who is a certified weapons instructor, is said to have extensive training in jujitsu and is a black belt in judo, has been arrested in Indianola, according to desmoinesregister.com.

FBI agents recently arrested the martial arts instructor. The federal indictment of the case was sealed, according to a police spokesman.

It is still unclear whether the federal investigation was aimed at man or his martial arts business.

More Judo Politics

Politics ...
The reason why I'm content not to be bothered with official federations and the like. I like to train, teach and meet friends. The rest of it is one major pain in the butt as far as I'm concerned.

Brazil -- The UPJ (Pan an-American Judo Union) has reportedly sent a letter to the International Judo Federation. The letter accuses the two judo federations of Brazil and Uruguay of a plot to remove union heads from their posts before the end of their elected periods.

Effectively, the judo union threatens to ban judo in the two countries from the Olympics in China for trying to "remove its democratically elected leaders".

He Fooled Everyone

Tennessee -- Police say a Cleveland sex offender seemed to have everyone fooled. Even his wife had no idea he was a registered and convicted offender, according to a police spokesperson.

No one seemed to be aware of his dangerous past - that the man had been convicted of sexual battery against two children in 1997, according to wdef.com.

The man had moved moved from Florida to Cleveland in August under a new name. He settled down with his wife, step daughter and new identity, and opened a karate studio where he was working with children and adults.

She Received Bravery Award

India -- Monal Kadlak from the Khadakpada area in Kalyan is a seventeen-year-old girl. In 2005 she showed what police called exemplary bravery in catching a mugger who was trying to flee after snatching her gold chain, according to mumbaipluses.com.

Recently, the Thane police thanked the teenager for single-handedly nabbing the chain snatcher. She was presented with a certificate of appreciation and a memento along with a cash prize for her bravery.

When being asked what inspired her to the brave act, the first year college student said, "I knew that I had to act and not cow down. I have learnt karate and this helped me a lot in boosting my confidence."

Website Update

Just a quick note here to let you know that I've added a separate page about taekwondo at my main site:

If you have any comments, I'd be very happy to hear from you! Do keep in mind that there are many opinions about this art (as there are with almost all other arts), and that the information is written by someone who has not trained the art.

Case Will Go to Trial

Virginia -- A karate instructor who is accused of kicking an 11-year-old student more than 200 times is facing new charges, according to wavy.com.

A grand jury has allegedly found enough evidence to indict the female instructor on one felony count of Child Neglect and Abuse and one misdemeanor count of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor.

She was initially charged with Child Endangerment in November, after police say she kicked the boy more than 200 times in his stomach and ribs. It happened at a Suffolk karate studio.

The woman was in court for a preliminary hearing on February 5. Several of her students showed up to defend her and show their support. Still, the judge ruled that the case would go to trial.

Unsinkable Courage

What an amazing story of courage and strength. These are some tough individuals for sure.

Story:
Australia -- When a rescue helicopter picked up 41-year-old fisherman John Jarrett and took him to hospital, he had been clinging to debris for 30 hours in the open ocean. Mr Jarrett feared his skipper would not be found alive, according to The Canberra Times.

Mr Jarrett was the second man found alive after the net of their prawn trawler snagged about 3 a.m., capsizing and sinking the boat about 13km off the coast of NSW.

Jarrett's super-fit crew mate, 39-year-old Michael Williams (a second dan black belt in karate) reportedly swam for 12 hours to raise the alarm.

Mr Williams' mother said that Mr Jarrett almost certainly owed his life to her son. "He wasn't going to let them die. It would have been another 12 hours out there for them if he hadn't got to shore to raise the alarm," she said.

Twins Gay Porn Karate

This is a weird story if I ever saw one!

Story:
Pennsylvania -- The 25-year-old twin brothers have appeared in hardcore gay-porn online videos according to foxnews.com.

The two men are now charged with the rooftop burglary of a South Philadelphia business and authorities say they are also suspected in dozens of similar crimes in at least three states.

The identical twins from Pennsauken, New Jersey, were arrested February 19 after a multistate task force said they watched the twins break into a beauty shop through the roof.

One of the men, who police say is a karate expert and trained gymnast, has used his athletic skills to make daring escapes from police.

A police spokesman says he was handcuffed in the back of a moving police cruiser following a drug arrest in Clementon, New Jersey in 2006. The man broke out the car window with his head and jumped into a lake while still handcuffed.

Officers said he swam across like Flipper, taunting them, saying, 'You'll never catch me!"

Fighting ME

Apart from calling a 14-year-old female brown-belt an expert (when will this nonsense ever stop...), this is a nice, inspirational piece about a young teen fighting ME (chronic fatigue syndrome) through karate.

The karate student has been battling the condition - once termed 'yuppie flu' for five years.
The symptoms reportedly include muscle pain, exhaustion and poor concentration. It is estimated that about 25,000 children suffer from it.

As the report says: Jessica, 14, of Carrbrook (near Stalybridge) is determined to beat it.

Thankfully He Failed

I honestly fail to see how this dude is an expert in anything apart from being a certified, legitimate creep.

Story:
UK -- A 47-year-old karate black belt and maintenance man from Stoke, stripped and groped a 15-year-old girl and took photos of her on his mobile phone. The man also made her touch him indecently.

The martial arts "expert" was convicted in May 2007. He has now failed in a court bid to have his convictions overturned, according to thisisplymouth.co.uk.

The man's barrister argued that his previous convictions for flashing - offences he committed over 20 years ago - should not have been put before the jury as they would have had "a distasteful and highly prejudiced effect on the jury".

Reluctant to Report Abuse

Long Island -- Investigation has revealed clues that opportunities to stop the sexual abuse of children were missed, newsday.com says.

The families of two of the 37-year-old Ronkonkoma karate instructor -- known as "Sensei Jimmy" to his young students -- said they learned of the abuse more than a decade ago.

One of the karate teacher's former colleagues said at least two other adults had secondhand knowledge of accusations more than a decade ago.

According to a detective of the Special Victims Section said no one filed a police report about the man until a 13-year-old boy came forward in October 2007.

She Lost Control

Silly me... I was somehow led to believe that control was a major ingredient of our arts.

Story:
UK -- Despite calling the judge a "w*****" (a British derogatory term describing someone who likes to play with their "John Thomas" trouser snake), a 33-year-old female karate teacher who headbutted her then partner on March 9 2007, narrowly escaped prison.

The woman left the father to one of her children permanently disfigured from a broken nose after she "lost control" following a heated civil hearing, ealingtimes.co.uk reports.

Flying Karate Kick

...And a Taser take-down.

Story:
Colorado -- On a Sunday, a 55-year-old known criminal was been arrested in Boulder for allegedly attempting to kidnap a child from a restaurant back patio, according to dailycamera.com.

Then, near where investigators were gathered outside the restaurant to investigate the incident, a 25-year-old man reportedly executed a "flying karate kick". Officials say the man was Tasered and subdued.

A witness to the incident told media, "It was a classic Bruce Lee karate chop."

New Long Island Charges

A 37-year-old man is now facing a great number of new charges ranging from distributing pornography to videotaping other boys in sexual situations, according to newsday.com.

The karate Long Island instructor made sexual photos and videos of himself and children using hidden cameras in his home and karate school, according to police.

The respected figure in the martial arts community was arrested October 11 2007. A 13-year-old student had reportedly told his mother and then police that he'd had sexual contact with his instructor in his apartment in Ronkonkoma.

It is being alleged that three sexual encounters occurred from late June to early August 2007.
