More victims
A Daly City karate teacher originally accused of molesting two former students had his felony charges hiked to 47 after three more young women came forward with allegations.
The case involving the three new alleged victims was consolidated Thursday with the original charges against the 43-year-old man. He is now scheduled for jury trial on 47 felonies from all five victims February 26.
The alleged victims all attended Palmiano’s martial arts school, Karate Do USA, on Mission Street in Daly City. The first two came forward to report Palmiano molested them between January 2005 and this year.

A south Wales schoolgirl with cerebral palsy has stunned her doctors by taking up the tough sport of kick-boxing, after being told she would never be able to walk when she was a baby.
Twelve-year-old Sinead Lurvey, from Cwmbran, is partially paralysed down one side of her body, but has won her first belt just eight weeks after going into the gym.
Sinead was seven-months-old when doctors told her parents she would be disabled by the physical condition which affects movement as a result of an injury to the brain.

'Con fu'
UK -- A martial arts expert who fiddled £34,000 of disability allowance by pretending he had a bad back was caught on tape teaching karate classes.
The man — who has worked as a TV fight adviser on The Bill and Corrie — suffered genuine back problems in 1994 which stopped him coaching.
He returned to martial arts instructing in 2001 — demonstrating flying kicks and flinging karate and jujitsu pupils around mats on the floor, despite claiming he had a ruptured disc.

Drunk and abusive
This man was last seen on the TV programme ‘It’s me or the fat dog’ on November 21, when his wife’s pet chihuahua was trying to battle the bulge.
On Tuesday the former amateur boxer appeared at Bedford Magistrates’ Court and pleaded guilty to charges of assaulting a police officer.
Magistrates were told that the man returned home just before midnight drunk and abusive. The police were called, after he began throwing his wife’s clothes out of the house.
Officers warned him that he faced arrest for breach of the peace and tried to talk him into leaving the house to calm down. The man attempted to go back into the house and five officers were involved in arresting him.
One of the officers was struck in the face and officers were instructed to use CS gas in the man’s apprehension.
The accused accepted that he may have struck the officer in a reckless manner but as he was a boxer and practises martial arts, the results of the punch would have been very different if he had intended to hit the policeman.

Chan hurt
Actor Jackie Chan has been injured while shooting a scene for Rush Hour 3. The 52-year-old martial arts expert re-injured his chest, according to Variety magazine.

Poor judgement
A 24-year-old Kitchener man has been charged after an incident in which an elementary school was locked down on Wednesday after a topless man was seen practising martial arts at the playground, armed with a stick.
Police were called to Notre Dame School on Rosemount Drive in Kitchener after school staff reported the man. Students were locked down for their safety, police said.

Cartoonist trouble
Miami -- Friday morning, a freelance cartoonist called his brother-in-law and said: "Take care of my kids. Don't let them watch TV today."
The man -- dressed in a black FBI polo shirt and concealing what turned out to be a toy machine gun -- spoke to a security guard, then headed up to El Nuevo Herald's sixth-floor newsroom, where he barricaded himself for 3 1/2 hours in the office of the El Nuevo Herald Executive Editor before surrendering to police.
The man, an award-winning cartoonist and karate black belt who turns 51 Monday, had been struggling with personal problems, including a disintegrating marriage and financial difficulties.

A martial arts studio in Warren will be allowed to remain in business, three weeks after city officials criticized the owners for selling weapons.
Macomb Martial Arts Academy had opened inside Universal Mall in May, apparently after slipping through government cracks. When the owners sought a certificate of occupancy, a city officials told them a special land-use permit to operate in a mall was needed first.
Warren's Planning Commission recommended the permit be issued but only if the owners stop selling martial arts weapons. When the matter went before the City Council, dismayed council members delayed action on permit request after learning the owners waited until a public hearing on their permit before pulling the items.

Found him hanging
A professional jujitsu fighter charged with trying to open a cabin door of a Dulles-bound airliner at 30,000 feet tried to commit suicide in his Leesburg jail cell, authorities said yesterday.
Carlos Alberto de Oliveira, 43, was taken to Central State Hospital in Petersburg after officials at the Loudoun County jail found him hanging in his cell Tuesday night, said Loudoun Public Defender Lorie E. O'Donnell.
The Brazilian national apparently became distraught after the court declined for a second time this week to hear his motion to enter into a plea agreement with prosecutors, O'Donnell said.

Ninja, hunter, nutcase
Connecticut -- Police arrested a man for climbing onto the roof of Watertown Plaza while allegedly claiming to be a "ninja," who then assaulted several officers after being placed under arrest.
Tuesday, November 14 at approximately 1:10 p.m., a police officer responded to the report of an individual in Watertown Plaza climbing up street signs and utility poles and appearing to be trying to gain access to the roof. The subject attempted to walk away from the officer's approach but was pointed out by passerbys. As the officer approached the individual, it was that observed that his pant legs were rolled up to his knees, he wore a ripped shirt and a bandana around his neck.
When questioned, the 21-year-old Bethlehem resident claimed, in a menacing manner, that he was "a ninja" and was "practicing to hunt lions."
At Police Headquarters he was placed in a holding cell prior to being formally fingerprinted and he began to climb the bars and hang upside down in the cell.

The man threw some punches at the 23-year-old, before turning on his friend, who tried to intervene. The 23-year-old then victim tried to stop the fight by jumping on to the man's back, but was thrown off.
The offender then used a "martial arts style roundhouse kick" to kick the victim in the head, a police spokesman said.
The victim fell back, hitting his head on the ground, and lost consciousness. Police said the victim had undergone emergency surgery but had not yet regained consciousness.

The four were relieved of duty Thursday pending an investigation into the incident, which officials said happened on Sunday — the latest in a string of scandals implicating police in the Austrian capital.
Tuncay Caliskan, a taekwondo specialist of Turkish extraction who competed for Austria in the 2000 Sydney Olympics and 2004 Athens Olympics and hopes to make the team for the 2008 Games in Beijing, said the four used extremely foul and abusive language and repeated racist slurs.
Caliskan, 29, said the officers ridiculed him when he went to a police station for help after an unknown assailant threatened him with a baseball bat, and that the situation rapidly escalated at the station.

Fake monks
Police fired warning shots as scores of officers battled to arrest up to 60 fake monks in the south-western Chinese city of Chengdu, police and news reports said on Friday.
The men were selling Buddhist trinkets on streets in Chengdu's Wuzhou district when they beat up two suspicious journalists, who later reported them to police.
The agency said more than 100 police were sent to arrest the men, after more than 20 of the fake monks surrounded and beat up the journalists.
The men all had shaven heads and claimed to be from the famous Shaolin Buddhist temple in the central province of Henan.
They offered to perform Shaolin martial arts for 10 yuan (1.2 dollars) and sold Buddhist amulets for up to 20 yuan (2.4 dollars), the report said.

'Shaken baby syndrome'
On Thursday, Grantville investigators arrested a Coweta County martial arts instructor for allegedly shaking a 16-month-old baby unconscious, causing permanent brain damage.

Child molestation
A 25-year-old, former martial arts instructor charged with child molestation was sentenced to a year in jail Thursday. He was indicted in May on one charge of child molestation stemming from a sexual relationship he admitted to having with a 15-year-old girl while he was working as an instructor at Martial Arts America.
The girl became pregnant and the two later married. The man, who was supported in the courtroom by his family and friends and the girl's parents, pleaded guilty to the lesser included charge of statutory rape Thursday.

Domestic dispute
No charges will be filed against the South Bend Police officer who shot and killed a man in the line of duty Monday.
Prosecutors say Patrolman Jason King did what was absolutely necessary to defend his own life and the homicide has been ruled justifiable. Officer King responded to a domestic dispute call on Monday.
When he arrived he spotted 25-year-old Joseph Hanrath in the neighborhood. Hanrath matched the description of the offender in that call. Patrolman King chased him until Hanrath turned on the policeman and attacked him. Police say Hanrath used a military or martial arts move to choke Officer King.
