Story:
On Tuesday, A 28-year-old Newark man apologized before being sentenced to prison for possessing thousands of child pornography images, including pictures he took of an 8-year-old girl enrolled in a day care center run by his mother out of their home.
After the home was searched November 30, the man tried to leave the country by boarding a plane to Paris and then catching a connecting flight to Iran, authorities said. He returned to the United States after Iranian authorities denied him entry because he didn't have a visa.
The court file includes letters from acquaintances who portrayed the man as a caring young man with a black belt in karate and a university industrial science degree.
