Police said the allegations of the British-born woman were just "figments of her imagination," and that documentary evidence and medical tests had debunked her claims.

Globalnation.inquirer.net reports that The mayor of Iloilo City demands an apology from the woman in the story below who claimed she had been held captive and made a sex slave in the Philippines.
The mayor reportedly said the British born woman had tarnished the image of the city and Ilonggos through her "baseless" allegations.

Philippines -- Au.news.yahoo.com had a story about a 39-year-old woman from New Zealand who said she was lured with a Facebook invitation to join a martial arts school in the Philippines - only to be robbed and forced into prostitution upon her arrival.
The martial arts enthusiast reportedly replied positively to an invitation to participate in an intense training camp in October.
"They were meant to be world class and I thought this was a chance for me to learn from the best," the woman said.

Booze, Cannabis and Martial Arts
Sparring and doing martial arts in state like this ... how utterly stupid.
New Zealand -- An evening with cannabis, home brew and martial arts Father's Day 2009 ended with a man stabbed to death in the West Coast settlement of Kumara.
A 55-year man is on trial for stabbing another man on September 7, 2009, inflicting a fatal knife wound to the heart, according to stuff.co.nz.
The case prosecutor said the defendant and the deceased were interested in martial arts and sparred on occasions, as they did that night.

Bad Kung Fu Shoe
New Zealand - It appears that the kung fu shoes - made popular by none other than legendary Bruce Lee - has made a reappearance, at least according to nzherald.co.nz.
They also report that people are experiencing foot problems from walking around in these soft shoes. Well duh, they are training shoes. If you are used to having foot wear with a strong support of the foot, is it really that strange you will experience some problems when you're basically walking around in slippers?

Kung Foolish in Thailand
Thailand -- A New Zealand expatriate who reportedly owns several businesses and is a noted kung fu master, was arrested in Pattaya, according to stuff.co.nz.
The man was allegedly dressed in full SWAT gear carrying a live automatic weapon in public, according to police.
When being approached by police, the "kung-fool" reportedly claimed he had been contracted by local police to train them on several occasions. He also produced several forms of identification, some of which was conflicting.

TKD Brothel for Sale
New Zealand -- A taekwondo Olympian who sparked quite a bit of controversy when he set up a brothel in an attempt to fund his Olympics campaign is now reportedly selling the business as a peace offering, according to tvnz.co.nz.
Logan Campbell set-up the "gentleman's club" in Auckland in 2009 to help fund his bid for the 2012 Olympics, a move which brought stern reactions from both the New Zealand Olympic Committee and the national taekwondo federation and jeopardised his place in future squads.

New Zealand -- The 23-year-old taekwondo athlete who was planning to finance his 2012 London Olympics bid with the proceeds from a brothel, has been threatened with legal actions by the New Zealand Olympic Committee, according to reuters.com.
The young athlete reportedly opened a brothel with a friend in Auckland earlier this year - going public with the scheme in July.
The national Olympic Committee of New Zealand had now stated in writing that they demand he cease linking the Olympics to his business or face a lawsuit.

Brothel Fundraising
New Zealand -- A 23-year-old Beijing Olympian's funding had reportedly dried up and now he he might be missing out on the London Olympics in 2012. So the young man came up with a strange plan - he traded his taekwondo outfit for a suit and became ... a pimp, according to stuff.co.nz.
Together with his 20-year-old business partner, he recently launched a "high-class gentleman's club" (which in effect is a brothel) in Auckland, and the fighter hopes to get to London off the earnings from the business.
Hiss Beijing campaign cost about $150,000 in the preceding years. Most of the money came from his parents. The mans said he was sick of being a burden to his parents.
He received a $15,000 "performance enhancement grant" from a government sports funding body for his result in Beijing, but Taekwondo New Zealand has suspended the funding because the man has not been competing.
His plan is allegedly to take a couple of years off, hopefully earn up to $300,000 from the brothel, and launch his London bid in 2012. The man believes with that kind of money behind him, he will be a serious medal prospect.

An official with Taekwondo New Zealand said that although this would not affect his membership, it would be taken into account when considering him for international selection.
"Selection takes into account not just performance but also the athlete's ability to serve as an example to the youth of the country," the official said.

Guilty of Murder
New Zealand -- The 55-year-old martial arts expert, charged with murdering his 28-year-old wife and abandoning his toddler at a train station has been found guilty.
The jury found that the accused strangled his wife to death in September 2007, then took their three-year-old daughter to Australia.
The girl was later found crying at a train station in the Melbourne after her father abandoned her and fled to the United States.

An 'Expert Helper'
New Zealand -- An unemployed Northland man, 47, with a history of sex offences against women, has appeared in court. The man has allegedly claimed he wants to help 'wayward teenage girls'.
Northernadvocate.co.nz reported how the man deliberately targeted young women in public places.
December 11 2007, he approached an 18-year-old woman in a Whangarei bus terminal. He then supposedly told the woman that his girlfriend had been killed in a fight after her throat was slit. Claiming he was a martial arts expert, he then tried to show the woman some taekwondo moves.
He touched the young woman's chest and only took his hands away when a member of the public turned up.
While on bail, he assaulted another woman indecently in Whangarei. He went into the room where she was staying twice, touched her chest and said he was a martial arts expert.

Objectionable Material
New Zealand -- In Christchurch, a former teacher has appeared in court on a number of charges of distributing objectionable material, according to stuff.co.nz.
The 32-year-old former high school teacher and martial arts instructor -- who left New Zealand in 2004 -- first appeared in court in July.
The man is accused of providing objectionable photographs of young boys via the Internet.
Police officials said several thousand files had been found on the man's computer. They had estimated three-quarters of the files -- movies, photographs, websites and fictional stories -- were objectionable.
The man was reportedly convicted December 12 on a number of charges of "making an objectionable publication available to other people for gain". He will be sentenced in January 2009.

A True Judo Expert
By now, I'm sure you are aware of how I feel about the term "martial arts expert" being handed to everyone and everything earning a black belt. If not, do feel free to use the word 'nonsense' (or some similar, perhaps even stronger, words).
A 12-year-old taekwondo or karate "expert" with a few years of training? Yeah, right... So, just in case you wonder, this is what I consider an expert.
78-year-old Pat Toner from New Zealand has recently been awarded the very high grade of seventh dan in judo after 60 years of learning the art.
Mr Toner -- a former British Royal Marine -- began training when he was 18 and he still works out every day, either at the gym or the Wellington Judo Academy. The enduring competitor says the secret to his success and longevity was his discipline.
Congratulations, Mr Toner; well deserved!

Nearly two hours after the house was set alight, a man was caught at a house 500m away in another street.
The homeowner, who wanted to be known only as Brett, said the man turned up at his home asking for a taxi to be called about 7:45 p.m.

Guilt And Anger
New Zealand -- A 50-year-old Masterton martial arts teacher has been jailed for sexual offences against a girl who had been one of his pupils. The man pleaded guilty to the five charges relating to a nine-year-old girl nearly 20 years ago, according to stuff.co.nz.
The judge said the man ran a martial arts center that the girl had attended and he came to know her family. Through the family contact she sometimes stayed at his house and the offending began there.
The victim is now in her 20s and the guilt and anger about what happened had blighted her life, the judge said.

Fled to the US
New Zealand -- A yellow necktie may have been used to strangle a mum, killed three weeks after her abusive husband lured her home, according to news.com.au.
New Zealand detectives seized the tie, a martial arts staff and a dressing gown as the search for the woman's fugitive husband intensified in the US.
The man fled to Los Angeles after he dumped his baby daughter at Melbourne's Southern Cross railway station. His wife's body was found in the boot of his car six days after he left New Zealand.
The husband, a Chinese martial arts expert, hunted down his terrified wife after she fled their Auckland home in June.

A Decent Blow
New Zealand -- A would be abductor got more than he bargained for when a woman used her martial arts experience.
The woman and her friend were walking home from inner city Hamilton when came across a two door silver car parked suspiciously. A man jumped out of the vehicle and attempted to drag the woman into the vehicle but she escaped after striking him with what police say was a decent blow.
Both occupants of the car were described as wearing dark clothing and had masks over their faces. Police investigating the activities of a serial rapist in Hamilton are keeping an open mind on whether there is any link.

Australia -- A top international sporting body is set to be taken to trial, accused of violating the human rights of a blind Adelaide man.
Paralympics gold medallist Anthony Clarke will call on witnesses, including an Olympic judo coach, to prove he can compete with able-bodied martial artists.
He claims the Oceania Judo Union banned him from its 2005 world tournament and cost him a spot at next year's Beijing Olympics.
The New Zealand-based group has vowed to defend its position that Mr Clarke would need a sighted carer if he was to be involved in the competition.

Numchukkas? Why not call it nunchaku? After all, that's what it is...

New Zealand -- A man practising his moves with numchukkas and a machete in a Sunshine Bay car park at night has been arrested.
Acting sergeant Terry Wood says the local has been charged with possessing offensive weapons.
He was "by himself practising martial arts" at 11:30 p.m. on February 20, Wood says.
"A guy rang us – he was a bit worried about it. He said the guy's behaviour was a bit odd, when everything was taken into account."
