Kung-Football

China -- After China once again failed to qualify for the World Cup, a businessman named Kong Debao thinks he may have found a way to revitalize the "beautiful game" -- by creating kung fu football.

By blending the sport of soccer with graceful kung fu moves, Kong believes he can help the national football team improve their agility and speed, according to timesofindia.indiatimes.com.

After two years of setbacks, the Chinese businessman finally found a martial arts school in the suburbs of Beijing that agreed to start a kung fu football class this year.

Don't know about you guys, but I'd really like to see a video of this. Is it full contact? Do they stop to perform a pattern now and then? Can you kick your opponent as well as the ball? Any weapons involved? So many questions.. :-)

Instructor Faces Robbery Rap

Philippines -- A 38-year-old Korean judo instructor has reportedly been charged with robbery for allegedly taking more than 1 million Peso from his 43-year-old Korean acquaintance in Manila in February.

The suspect allegedly took 1.2 million Philippine Peso (approximately US$25,000) from his acquaintance using his judo skills after the complainant refused to lend him money on February 15, according to mb.com.ph.

Instructor With Child Porn

California -- A 35-year-old Tehachapi photographer, who also was described as a former MMA fighter, has appeared in federal court facing child porn charges, according to turnto23.com.

Authorities said the suspect used the Internet to trade child pornography. It was told that the suspect, who is employed as a martial arts instructor for children and adults, was in the process of opening his own martial arts studio.

On April 20, agents seized a large amount of kiddie porn from the man's Tehachapi residence. Further review revealed the material included pornographic images of a victim identified as a 14-year-old local girl.

Crazy Tea "Party"

California -- A 26-year-old mixed martial arts fighter has been charged with murder after allegedly gouging out a 21-year-old friend's heart and eyes in Requa, near Klamath, according to times-standard.com and heraldsun.com.au.

The grisly killing and mutilation occurred when a group of four friends had been drinking mushroom tea on March 21.

After drinking the tea laced with psychedelic mushrooms. The suspect and victim, reportedly became preoccupied with the idea that the end of the world was upon them and that a struggle between God and the devil was taking place.

Narcotics Charges

Pennsylvania -- A 27-year-old MMA trainer and former University of Pennsylvania football player has been arrested by Philadelphia police. Authorities seized high-grade marijuana worth $1.2 million from the man's fight-training studio in University City, according to philly.com.

Reports indicate that police found a small but sophisticated hydroponic grow room on the second floor above the man's studio. The grow room reportedly contained approximately 130 plants and two pounds of marijuana ready to be packaged.

Philly.com says the suspect had a short career as a professional MMA fighter.

Karate Instructor Attacked Woman

Olahoma -- A high ranked karate instructor has been arrested by Tulsa police and charged with rape by instrumentation, according to newson6.com.

Police said the man attacked a woman as she left a West Tulsa bar and attempted to rape her. The intended victim was reportedly able to kick him and get away.

Swords Seized and Destroyed

Australia -- Following what has been described as "an ugly domestic dispute", a former taekwondo champion has had his swords his swords seized by authorities.

The 53-year-old man, of Heathmere, recently pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing a prohibited weapon, according to standard.net.au.

Portland Magistrates Court reportedly was told how the defendant's abusive behavior towards his family members prompting a call to police.

Karate Instructor Accused

Texas -- A 54-year-old Robinson karate instructor has been arrested for accusations he sexually abused one of his students, according to kxxv.com.

Police said a male student accused the former former owner and high profile self-defense instructor of the abuse on April 20. The student reportedly told authorities that he was abused numerous times at the man's home.

Kama Killer

Oklahoma -- A 21-year-old man accused of slaying his mother in Durant with martial arts weapons will have to undergo another round of mental evaluations. One doctor reportedly ruled him competent to stand trial and another said he was incompetent, according to durantdemocrat.com.

The young man was charged in April with first-degree murder after authorities said he killed his  54-year-old mother at an apartment in Durant with a pair of kama. He was also charged with animal cruelty because he also mutilated the family dog, according to investigators.

Police said the young man was found hiding inside a closet, armed with a sword. A police officer shot him with non-lethal shells from a shotgun, ending the stand-off.

Martial Arts Boss Held

Malaysia -- The 38-year-old president of a local martial arts association was recently arrested in connection with trading licence fraud, according to news.asiaone.com.
The man was arrested at an International wing chun festival and championship at a large shopping center outside Kuala Lumpur.

The man is alleged to have duped several people of a sum equivalent of US $30,000 in 2005. His victims claimed in their reports that the man could get them trading licenses from City Hall.

In 2005, the victims contacted authorities after the man went missing soon after they had paid him a 'deposit' for the trading licences, according to a police spokesperson.

An Eye Opener

China - A 50-year old kung fu expert pulled an small plane for five meters - by a rope hooked to his eyelids, according to Chinese media.

The stunt was performed at an exhibition in Changchun, Jilin province, and it took the martial artist less than a minute to pull the half-a-tonne aircraft .

Dong Changsheng, who has been practicing kung fu for nearly 40 years, has reportedly collected numerous awards for his skills.

"Noise" Leads to Killing

UK -- Metro.co.uk reports that a kick-boxer and his friend, both 23 and from Ashford in Kent, have admitted to punching a man to death in a row over his noisy children on August 2, 2009.

The 32-year-old victim, a father of six, lapsed into a coma and died in November 2009.

The court heard that the kick-boxer, who was a student at the time of the assault, had previously been cautioned for common assault in relation to his girlfriend.

Rear Naked Choke

Nevada -- A martial arts instructor and police officer from Sparks recently testified about a choke hold he taught the man who is charged with abducting and murdering a 19-year-old college student and sexually assaulting two other women near the University of Nevada, Reno.

The officer said he contacted police out of concern that the jiu-jitsu move he taught the defendant was used on one of the victims.

The officer said the move, a "rear naked choke" he taught the defendant could render a person unconscious in seconds, according to lasvegassun.com.

No Charges for Ortiz

Florida -- Orange County prosecutors will no file charges against MMA star Tito Ortiz, according to oclnn.com.

The former UFC light heavyweight champion was arrested April 26 on suspicion of domestic violence in Huntington Beach at the house he shares with former adult film actress Jenna Jameson.

Battery Suspect Arrested

Florida --A man was arrested May 6 after a teenage female victim came forward saying the man sexually assaulted her two years ago at her taekwondo school in St. Cloud.

The martial arts instructor was reportedly just out on bond for sexual battery, and was taken back to jail facing similar charges.

The victim, who allegedly was 14 years old at the time, said he took her into a room alone while talking to her about her belt testing the same day. Then she said the man started touching her inappropriately underneath her clothes, according to wdbo.com and wesh.com.

Taekwondo Coach Suspected

Taiwan - A 29-year-old female taekwondo instructor at a  junior high school in Taipei County is suspected of illicit sex with a 15-year-old student, according to news.asiaone.com.

The teenager told how he and his 29-year-old coach had kissed each other many times when attending tournaments in March. The boy also claimed that they had sex at the school's taekwondo gym.

A Trained Karate Black Belt

India --A 44-year-old man, described as a "trained karate black belt" has been arrested by police, suspected of being one of the men behind the Mulund train blast that killed 13 people in 2003, according to thaindian.com.

"His role in the Mulund train blast has been clearly spelled out in the charge sheet. (...) Besides him, six more accused in the case are still absconding," a police source said.

Running for Parliment

Japan -- 34-year-old judoka Ryoko Tani is somewhat of a Japanese icon and role model after returning to her successful judo career following the birth of her first child in 2005.

The two-time Olympic gold medal winner and seven-time world champion has said she is planning to run for parliament but that she was also still aiming for gold at the London Games in 2012 according to google.com.

Chopping the Pork Chops

China -- China's 27-year-old 2008 Olympic judo champion Tong Wen lost her 2009 world title and  was banned for two years after testing positive for Clenbuterol.

Now her coach, Wu Weifeng, has allegedly blamed a surfeit of pork chops for her positive test, according to nz.sports.yahoo.com.

Her coach believes that the well-documented food safety problems in China were responsible for the positive test.

The coach said that the judo star had been given lots of pork chops while preparing for the 2009 Championships in Holland. "She trained in Europe for a while and was sick of European food (...)," the coach said.

Jiu-Jitsu Instructor Arrested

Canada -- A 27-year-old jiu-jitsu instructor has been arrested and is facing sex-assault charges after a police probe into an inappropriate sexual relationship with a 13-year-old female student, according to ottawacitizen.com.

A female instructor at the school found out about the alleged relationship and notified the school's head teacher, who in turn notified officials.
