Jiu-Jitsu Choke Demo
Here's an "oh sh**" moment during a jiu-jitsu choke demo - could we possibly file this under the martial arts fail category?

You will find more news on that new site, while we'll of course also continue to maintain this blog here ... albeit somewhat less regularly.
The case about the judo serial killer is from latino.foxnews.com and it's about a judo champion who's being accused of strangling 5 people to death in Honduras.
A judo serial killer
A martial arts expert who has been a fugitive from justice since May 2010 and is accused of strangling five people was arrested by Honduran police, authorities said Tuesday.
The spokesman for the prosecutor's office, Melvin Duarte, told Efe that Gandhi Espinal Raudales was arrested several days ago.

MMA Madness, TV Style
![]() |
| TV - illustration from Wikipedia.org |
And we apparently won't need the real life - and out there - nutty mixed martial arts fighters when we have the couch potato variety to carry the flag of splendid madness for all the world to see.
Enter this 19-year-old TV inspired MMA crazed nitwit from Phoenix, Arizona.
When he found that his girlfriend "didn't respect him" (I do wonder why...), he allegedly incorporated some MMA moves he had learned on TV to beat her up in front of her three children, before he choked her to unconsciousness.
When Snyder was interviewed by officers, he had the woman's cell phone and admitted to choking and hitting her because she was "disrespecting him," a police report said.No respect? That's bad ... that's really bad.
Snyder told officers he only meant to cause his girlfriend to lose consciousness for a "couple of seconds" and said he tried to mimic what he learned from a mixed martial arts television program, a police report said.

Domestic Violence
Minnesota -- A man, described as a martial arts fighter and an "avid weightlifter", was arrested in Burnsville for violating a domestic no-contact order.
The man was arrested earlier in June after he assaulted his girlfriend. She told police that he had grabbed her by the throat and began to squeeze, cutting off her airway.
At one point, the man reportedly picked up the victim and threw her toward a crib where their 6-month-old baby was sleeping, according to burnsville.patch.com.
A responding officer at the time had noted broken blood vessels in the corners of the woman's eyeballs (a symptom of strangulation) and red marks on the right side of the woman's throat.

Killed by 'Kung Fu' Boyfriend
With terms such as "black belt in kung fu" and "used his kung fu expertise to kill his partner" you may begin to wonder where these seemingly retarded reporters get their information from.
Kung fu don't use the term 'black belt' as we do in other arts, neither can a strangulation technique be said to be typical kung fu.
Story:
UK -- After being told that his partner was leaving him for her married boss, a 41-year-old car salesman used his "kung fu expertise" to kill the 37-year-old mother of their two children - a Mercedes executive.
The telegraph.co.uk reported that the man strangled his partner using a martial arts technique that would leave barely a trace.
After killing his girlfriend, he evidently poured petrol over the body and set it on fire. He was hoping that the house would go up in flames along with any evidence and he could blame her death on a house fire.
However, the plan failed as the fire failed to take hold and the man has now been convicted of the woman's murder.
The man, a "black belt in kung fu", was said to be obsessive and rarely at home, either working as a car salesman, training or running martial arts lessons.

Not an Expert?
Here we have a man who may have just a hint of a tiny, insignificant anger management problem. And since all martial arts people are the embodiment of absolute peace, human kindness and self-control (... so I am told) - this guy must have used a "karate-style" belt belonging to someone else to try and strangle his partner.
It is also quite obvious it is not his belt all the time the reporter doesn't mention anything about the man being an "expert". As we all know, anyone with a belt is a legitimate, totally deadly martial arts "expert"...
Story:
Louisiana -- Police received a call from a 27-year-old woman who claimed a 45-year-old man had beat her and kept her prisoner in his house, according to a slidellsentry.com report.
The Alabama woman told police she and the man had been dating since January 8 after meeting on the Internet. She had come to Slidell to spend the weekend with the man.
During her visit, the man and the woman allegedly began arguing over their relationship. The woman said he made threats to her if she did not change her ways. The woman felt ill and wanted to stop the argument, but the man reportedly continued, and the argument escalated.
The man allegedly took away the woman's purse that contained her keys and cellular phone and locked them in another room in the house. The woman told police she then went to the bedroom, sat down on the bed and started to cry.
The man came into the bedroom, she said, and allegedly hit her on the back of the head so hard that she momentarily lost consciousness.
When she recovered, she said the man was very angry, and his verbal threats became dangerous. While he was holding a knife on her, he allegedly threatened to kill the woman's entire family before he killed her.
Then the attacker allegedly used a karate-style belt to choke the woman.

No Judo Hijab
Canada -- A Judo Manitoba official reduced an 11-year-old girl to tears Saturday when he refused to allow her to compete in a tournament wearing a hijab, or Muslim head scarf.
The Judo Manitoba president made the ruling. He said it was based on International Judo Federation guidelines.
"It has nothing to do with religion, it is a safety issue," the president said. "The hijab could be used to strangle somebody. It could fall over her face."
The Judo Manitoba ruling is the latest controversy in Canada over the wearing of hijabs by Muslim girls in sports.

Fast Quiet Deadly
Ah, yes - the über deadly judo. Not as lethal as the numbchucks or the ninja - but still...
Story:
California -- The defendant, a Linux engineer who is a black belt in judo, might have strangled his estranged wife to death and possibly coaxed his 6-year-old son to help cover it up, a prosecutor told jurors here Wednesday during the second day of the murder trial, blog.wired.com reports.
"There are a lot of different chokes," the prosecutor said, as he explained the art of judo. "It's fast. It's quiet. It's deadly."

A Taekwondo Save
Norway -- On June 22, vg.no reported about a 13-year-old who used her taekwondo skills to save her 10-year-old friend from a man.
Without prior warning, the masked man -- all clad in black -- allegedly attacked the 10-year-old girl at Haanes in Kristiansand. The attacker suddenly appeared as the two girls were walking on a footpath Wednesday afternoon.
"He came up from behind and kicked her on the legs," the teenager said. She tried to punch the man, but missed and hit a tree instead. A second punch hit the man in the abdomen.
"He kicked my friend in the leg one more time and then he took off. We then walked to a nearby road," the older girl said.
However, the man accosted the girls again. He reportedly attacked the 10-year-old with a strangle hold, attempting to drag her along to nearby woods.
"I hit him twice to his arm, scraming to let my friend go. He seemed confused, and finally ran off," the brave girl said.
The 13-year-old has been training taekwondo for two years. "My arms have become quite strong from the training, and I hit him pretty hard," the girl said.

Too Much Vegetables
Perhaps too much vegetables can turn you into one?
Story:
A vegetable trader has been arrested on suspicion of killing and beheading at least six of his employees, and dumping four of their torsos outside a high-security jail in Delhi.
Police said yesterday that the 40-year-old man had confessed to killing the six people in the second grotesque case of serial killing to shock the Indian capital within six months.
The trader is said to have killed one man because he would not comply with his request to stop eating meat and another for having an affair with a friend's daughter. Two others were murdered because he believed they were womanisers who drank too much.
Newspaper reports said that he would tie their hands on the pretext of punishing them and then strangle them using nunchaku, a martial arts weapon made of two wooden sticks connected by a chain.

Marshall arts ...
"The art of strangling, marshal arts, judo, and karate." Oh dear ...
Story:
Rwanda -- The French military helped in setting up death squads (Éscadrons de la Mort) including 'KLAP' and French members of the Detachment d'Assistance Militaire (DAMI), in Bigogwe in the Northern Province, the Mucyo Commission heard yesterday.
Testifying before the commission members yesterday, the witness dubbed, 'Witness Five', who said he joined the army in 1991 and later worked as a commando alleged that the French military helped establish the death squads that later exterminated thousands of ethnic Tutsis in the area.
Witness No. 3, an ex-FAR, said he worked with the French both in training Interahamwe members, and shelling RPF positions.
He said he worked with the French in training Interahamwe in Bigogwe in the art of strangling, marshal arts, judo, and karate. He emphasized: "during training I would stand with a French instructor and translated in Kinyarwanda what he said to trainees." He alleged that 36 French instructors were at Bigogwe from May 91 onwards.

Dangerous ...
Dangerous? What's next - someone who can kill, simply by talking about dental floss? I would argue that being "an accomplished martial arts practitioner" is not the same as being dangerous (dangerously stupid, maybe...).
You may however become a dangerous individual, by turning into a religious fanatic - and yes, any religion will do just fine.
Story:
New York: A judge on Thursday refused to order a terrorism suspect moved out of solitary confinement after prosecutors claimed he was so dangerous he suggested using prayer beads as a strangulation tool.
U.S. District Judge Loretta A. Preska denied the request by lawyers for Tarik Shah and his co-defendants that they be moved from special housing that leaves them isolated while they await trial.
The men are awaiting trial on charges that they conspired to help a terrorist organization.
Preska said the government had offered tape recordings to support that Shah was an accomplished martial arts practitioner who had tried to recruit others to join al-Qaida and offered to train them.

Fighting Fit Cheat
A 35-year-old claimed he was too sick to work - while holding martial arts classes and working as a nightclub doorman.
He had told the Benefits Agency that, because of a back injury sustained in an industrial accident, he needed a walking stick to get around the house.
He also said he had a tendency to fall and needed help going to the toilet, using stairs and cutting up his food.
