Norway -- Four Sandefjord men, aged 21, 31, 25 and 31, were arrested by police and charged with kidnapping, according to dagbladet.no (in Norwegian).
The incident allegedly occurred December 16, 2010 and police said they were still looking for one additional suspect.
The group allegedly kidnapped another man, with connections to a well-known criminal gang (B-gjengen), south of Oslo.
The victim was forced into a car. He was taken to a place in Vestfold county, where he was threatened, beaten up and held captured for several hours.
The four kidnappers all belong to a special "martial arts environment" - a MMA "Fight Club" of sort, with connections to Hells Angels, according to reports.
Police speculates whether the martial arts trained men has been hired by criminals in Oslo to tray and scare others to pay back debt.
The case has been handled by the organiced crime unit in Oslo since december 2010.

Fights Draw Gangsters
Canada -- During a recent MMA event in Nanaimo, a number of people with connections to gangs or organized crime attended, according to police and canada.com.
Police claimed up to 50 individuals with gang or organized crime connections - outlaw motorcycle groups specifically - were identified during the event. In excess of 2,000 fans from the Island and Vancouver reportedly attended.
Police claimed MMA, which is drawing younger men in particular as a fan base, tends to attract individuals who have ties to organized crime.

Death Penalty
Florida -- Former karate instructor and junior champion, Leonard Patrick Gonzalez, was handed down a pair of death sentences in the murders of Melanie and Byrd Billings, according to pnj.com.
The murders, described as "execution-style" was proven to be done by Gonzales July 9, 2009 inside the couple's home in Beulah.
Gonzalez reportedly led a gang of five men and one teenager to the spacious home early in the morning. The gang were after a "fortune" that Gonzales believed were kept there.
While handing down the sentence, the judge told the court that Gonzales clearly was the ringleader - directing the other participants.
The other defendants, cooperating with the state, testified that Gonzalez was the one who shot and killed the couple in the master bedroom.

Sumo and Gangsters
Japan -- It has been revealed that two stable masters in the Japanese national sport of sumo is accused of providing tickets to members of an organized crime group for prime ringside seats to a major tournament in July 2009, according to yomiuri.co.jp.
The accused stable masters allegedly helped arrange for more than 50 gangsters to get the tickets via a third party. The front-row seats are primarily reserved for sponsors and are not for sale.
Police are reportedly investigating whether the gangsters made any profit from the tickets. A police spokesperson said the gang members may have obtained the ringside tickets so imprisoned members watching sumo on TV could see them.
The revelations came just days after reports that one high ranking sumo wrestler has been blackmailed by former associates of a gang and is allegedly in heavy debt from gambling.

A Karate 'Rip-Off'
New York -- A 36-year-old employee at a politically connected Brooklyn nonprofit has been arrested on charges of submitting phony receipts for karate instruction, attempting to swindle the city out of $4,080, according to nypost.com.
The man allegedly submitted expense reports showing that a senior citizens center - on 59 dates in 2007 - provided classes in karate to 20 young people. This allowed the center to access an $80,000 anti-gang-violence grant from the City Council.
However, 50 sign-in sheets that were part of the expense report were altered photocopies, authorities said.

Robbery Gang Busted
India -- Following the arrest of five men, Delhi Police have allegedly solved a large number of cases of robbery, snatching and car theft , according to sify.com.

"Silattack"
Indonesia -- A large group of silat students from one particular clan allegedly attacked some innocent concert-goers in an ambush gone wrong. One person was killed and 16 badly hurt in the horrific attack, according to news.asiaone.com.
Authorities believe they had planned a surprise attack on the practitioners of a different silat school.
The attackers fled after the ambush, and many of the attackers are thought to be hiding in the woods near Mlideg village, East Java, not far from the scene of the attack.
Police reportedly found motorcycles and weapons, including knives, machetes and a samurai sword, abandoned nearby.

Martial Arts Goons
Malaysia -- Nst.com.my reported October 21 about three goons belonging to a "a martial arts group". The three members, all in their 20s, were arrested in connection with an attack on a Kuala Lumpur nightclub, according to the report.
Police believed the trio were amongst a large group of people who attacked the club on Saturday around 2 a.m. Throwing glasses, bottles and chairs and smashing everything in sight, the mob barged into the packed nightclub, according to police.
Three men from the group had allegedly gone to the same nightclub earlier during the night for drinks but had refused to pay.

Spain -- Spanish police are questioning four British martial arts "experts", aged between 40 and 55, following a kidnap and extortion attempt in Tarifa, southern Spain.
The British victim -- described as a "law-abiding man without criminal links" by Spanish police -- was reportedly rescued by shoppers as the four men bundled him into a car outside a resort supermarket, according to guardian.co.uk.

MMA Fighter Killed
Canada -- A 28-year-old fighter and MMA gym owner with past links to a criminal gang has been shot and killed in Abbotsford, according to bclocalnews.com. The man was allegedly gunned down in the gym's stairwell.
An Abbotsford Police spokesperson said the gym was well known to police for some of the people frequenting it, and the victim also was well known to police.
The man was reportedly charged with weapons and drugs offences in April 2008.

A Surfer Who Fights
Australia -- Richie Vaculik, the martial arts champion and big-wave surfer who's a member of the 'Bra Boys', has been extradited to Queensland over an alleged bashing at a celebration party at Coolangatta, according to news.com.au.
During the celebration of Gold Coast surf star Mick Fanning's world title, Vaculik allegedly broke a hotel patron's jaw November 2007.
The 'Bra Boys' is a notorious Sydney surf gang, and Vaculik has described himself as "a surfer who fights rather than a fighter who surfs".

Mugger-Bugger
UK (Scotland) -- When three muggers picked out Oxford actor Tom Clews to steal his cash in the street, they chose the wrong man.
Perhaps they should have decided a 20-year-old carrying a 3ft-long broadsword wasn't the ideal target, but they carried on as they pinched a £20 note from his hand and ran away down the road.
But Mr Clews - who was starring as Greek mythical hero Odysseus at the Edinburgh Fringe - chased them down while bare-chested and brandishing his solid-metal stage weapon.
Mr Clews, from Headington, tripped up one of the gang with his sword then wrestled with them in the street before snatching his money back.
When police arrived they hauled in the gang because they were wanted for a similar theft on festival-goers earlier that evening.
Mr Clews, who practices the martial art Tae Kwon Do and plans to study Fight Choreography and Stage Combat, said yesterday: "I followed them hurling abuse and something hit me in the face, I don't know what it was, but I didn't get any cuts or scars.

Wooden Dummies
Sweden -- Using a wooden plank as a weapon of choice, a gang jumped a martial artist in Eskilstuna. The intended victim was hit to the back of the head before he was able to retaliate.
Being trained in martial arts, he turned the table on the attackers. The first assailant was immediately struck to the ground.
Even the second attacker got a taste of the man's self-defense skills. The other gang members immediately backed off.
The victim will not be charged with assault. According to police, the man acted in self-defense.

'Revenge' attack
Australia -- The sister of a Sydney teenager bashed by a gang of balaclava-clad men says it was revenge for a nightclub incident.
Linda, who did not wish to give her last name, told how her 18-year-old brother Lee was left with a fractured skull, broken left wrist, stitches to his head and severe bruising to his right arm after being beaten by 15 men armed with baseball bats and metal poles.
Linda said the attack was retribution for an incident at a bar four weeks ago, when Lee and three of his cousins had an encounter with the other men.
The attack last night was not the first time the gang has sought revenge for the nightclub incident, she said.
They had attacked one of the cousins from the nightclub, David, 25, as he left the gym two weeks ago. She said 20 of them turned up, wearing balaclavas but David, who has a black belt in tae kwon do, chased them off.

'Karate' Suresh
When you've got a nickname such as 'Judo' or 'Karate' - like the famous 'Judo' Gene LeBelle, or 'Karate' Suresh here - chances are you're either a tough guy, very competent in that art, or some weird character all together.
The legendary Gene Lebelle is both extremely competent as well as a tough man. Weird I don't know anything about (though I've heard he's quite a character :).
As for 'Karate' - an Indian criminal - I'm not sure at all. Maybe he's sweet and gentle lad after all, as well as a Deadly Black Belt™ in the art (aka. Martial Arts Expert™)?

A bandido
Canada -- One of the suspects arrested and charged Friday morning following the deaths of eight bikers in Ontario is a former police constable who held positions of authority in several Manitoba communities.
Police said the man is a full-patch member of the Bandidos and believed to be the leader of the Winnipeg chapter.
Court records show the man also worked as a martial arts instructor at a Winnipeg community club in the late 1990s.

Learning about respect
Fed up with police gang reports and inspired by community meetings calling for action, Nguyen began an after-school martial arts program for Gaithersburg students in December to help build students' self confidence and respect.
"The correlation between this class and better behavior among some of these kids is astounding," said Brenda Wilks, assistant principal at Gaithersburg High.
Those with poor attendance began going to class, she said. Some feeling the pressure to fit in with gangs refrained, students testified. And others, like Moya, saw their grades improve as they looked forward to attending school.

Pray for peace
Dili, East Timor - Frightened Timorese packed churches to pray for peace on Sunday, but gangs allied to feuding police or army units continued to rampage through the capital, evading foreign peacekeeping troops and torching homes and vehicles.
East Timor is one of the world's poorest nations and massive unemployment has seen the formation of dozens of gangs whose sole aims seem to be to practise martial arts and fight turf wars - regardless of the political situation.
But some residents say the rebellion has turned into a protest against Alkatiri's government which they accuse of failing to deliver any economic or social development since Timor became an independent state in 2002.
