Self Esteem, Autism, Martial Arts

Maryland -- When 13-year-old CJ Moore of Glenn Dale took up taekwondo in 2006, he was crying because he thought he couldn't do the sport.

However, the boy who was diagnosed with autism at the age of 3 didn't give up. Now he's a black belt and a role model for other younger students, according to gazette.net.

"The easiest part for him (...) was to focus; he does that really well," his father said. "He can block out almost anything and anyone."

Autism does not slow the youngster down. And his father is confident the taekwondo training helps his son.

"Without a doubt it has helped with his condition," Mr Moore said. "It helps with eye contact and social skills. He's determined."
